Environmental Initiatives and Projects
In order to meet the goals in the field of environmental protection, the company operates in three basic directions – it implements environmental projects, implements business initiatives that have a significant environmental performance and participates in environmental protection actions.
Environmental initiatives and projects and projects with an environmental effect are key elements for the sustainable operation of the company.
Environmental initiatives are often proposed by employees and represent a proactive approach to environmental protection inside and outside the work environment. The ability of employees to recognize and implement green practices can significantly contribute to the reduction of pollution, as well as raising awareness of the importance of nature conservation.
Through various initiatives (garbage collection, tree planting…), companies not only improve their image, but also actively participate in creating a more sustainable world for future generations.

Environmental Projects
Environmental projects are implemented exclusively for the purpose of environmental protection. In the design stage, BAT (Best Available Techniques), best world practice and legal requirements are applied, and their implementation reduces or eliminates negative environmental impacts.
So far, in order to protect the environment, a number of projects have been implemented:
- Installation of separators and piezometers
- Reconstruction of wastewater treatment plants
- Reconstruction of hazardous waste storage facilities
- Installation of the INRU hydrocarbon incineration unit
Projects that are under development include the installation of LowNOx burners, the reuse of wastewater, and the implementation of projects aimed at reducing the consumption and loss of energy resources has continued.
In the previous period, projects with environmental effects were implemented, which indirectly achieve significant positive effects on the environment.

Environmental Impact Report
Our basic activities are aimed at the compliance with all regulations relating to air, water, land, climate change, as well as the preservation of biodiversity in the areas of operations.
The monitoring system in the company covers the following environmental entities:
- Air quality / pollutant emissions into the air
- Water quality / pollutant emissions into the water
- Soil quality / pollutant emissions into the soil and groundwater
Monitoring is based on repeated measurements and observations with appropriate frequency in accordance with laws and by-laws in the field of environmental protection and internal procedures. The collected information is used to monitor the correct operation of the process, to check compliance with the emission limit values, as well as to make decisions on process and production improvement.
Environment
Air Quality / Pollutant Emissions into the Air
In our company, the occasional measurement of emissions of pollutants into the air from stationary sources is performed by an authorized legal entity for the measurement of emissions, by calibrated measuring devices, reference methods at representative measuring points, twice a year in accordance with the Emission Measurement Plan and the applicable legal regulations.
Environment
Water Quality / Pollutant Emissions into the Water
Water is a very important resource for our company, it enables the functioning of production processes and is used for: steam production, cooling systems, provision of fire protection, washing of production plants and equipment. “HIP-Petrohemija” d.o.o. Through the Strategy for the Improvement of Environmental Protection, Pančevo is focused on the preservation and improvement of the quality of water resources.
Water protection against pollution includes: elimination of the cause of pollution and monitoring of the state of water quality. “HIP-Petrohemija” d.o.o. Pančevo, in accordance with the applicable legal regulations, performs the monitoring of the quality of the internal flows, the monitoring of the quality of the discharged water (into the recipient).
At the Pančevo location, No. 82 Spoljnostarčevačka Street, due to the specifics of the production process and wastewater, which have both organic and inorganic loads, the water treatment is complex and includes primary and secondary treatment processes. At this location, all wastewater is treated: process, sanitary and wastewater from the cleaning of production plants and equipment.
At the location of Elemir – Synthetic Rubber Plant, Industrijska bb, all wastewater is treated: process, sanitary and wastewater from the cleaning of production plants and equipment.
At the location of Pančevo – Petroplast factory, Luka Dunav bb, no water is used in the production process, only sanitary wastewater is separated. The treatment of sanitary wastewater is carried out on a biodisk, after which these waters are discharged through the channel into the recipient – the Danube River.
Environment
Soil Quality / Pollutant Emissions into the Soil and Groundwater
Since the adoption of the Law on Soil Protection, HIP-Petrohemija has been monitoring the soil, which implies systematic control and monitoring of soil characteristics, and recording temporary or permanent changes in it. This process is essential for the early detection of changes in soil quality, as a function of processes related to its conservation and protection, sustainable use and overall environmental control.
Also, at the locations of HIP-Petrohemija in Pančevo and Elemir, piezometers were installed from which groundwater samples are taken. The sample is analyzed in authorized laboratories according to legal regulations. Measurements are made once a year in order to monitor the trend of changes in water quality, and the obtained results are compared with the limit values specified by the legal regulations.
